Today started off pretty damp. And the liquid sunshine hung about on and off. The park was 90% cleared out by 10AM, so stayed about in the relative peace working and reading most of the day. No hurry for another boat trip as our pass is good til the end of August! They gave us a long 3 days…
In the later afternoon the park filled up again, this time mainly with rent-a-campervans; jucy, x-base, cheapa, britz etc. So there are more, younger couples this time but still some of the grey-nomad-caravaners.
Drank more beers and wine with new friends in the Winnebago - Des and Sandra (from Brisbane)
We have decided we should go to Cooktown for about 3 days from next Tuesday via the Mulligan Highway (about 300km from here – 50 km backtrack through Mossman). Tried to book a site in (the middle of) Cooktown but they won’t take a booking – because they don’t know who will still be there next week??? Said we were coming 300 km with a dog: “Get here by midday you should be right…” So we will give it a go (on the basis that 2 other parks take dogs!)
Might go a little further north to the Endeavor River Park after that. Then will head back towards Cairns and maybe try for the Showgrounds again.
