Up early after a noisy night –not far enough from the busy road… no choice. On the road early and misty on the tableland, but a beautiful day. Closer we got to Cooktown the windier it got. Made it to the Orchid Holiday Park – the closest to town - about 1030, and managed to get a suitable site ($32 per night… cheaper then Cairns). Paid for 4 nights. Setup and went for a walk. Went for about an hour and will check out all the museums and historic stuff for the next few days.
Got back to a bent awning – the wind had collapsed one leg. Stood the leg on the ground rather than the side of the bus and really tightened the wing nut. Damage was done however and about 15 minutes later the knuckle joining the awning to the leg broke and down again. On examination the frame and mount on the bus are bent and the awning will not even close properly. Will have to come off and be straightened. So we got it closed, but no awning for now!! Bugger. Internet for parts: And Lo, the replacement part is now metal rather than plastic !!! so have ordered parts for BOTH ends – to be posted Monday but delivered to Daintree.
Set up the satellite. Worked first time. Maz told me it was dropping out occasionally so I tried re-aligning the dish – now have nothing; pissed off; tried again; zip. Will try again tomorrow!!!
Meanwhile beer o'clock and Maz's Friday fishy dinner, yum!
