Made a fairly slick getaway in the morning after a few cheerios. Went staraight to the airport collected the satellite stuff. Next Allans – Billy Hyde, bought two soprano ukuleles. We are both going to teach ourselves – or each other… Got the hell out of there to Smithfield (12km north) where we stocked up at Dan Murphys and Woolys, a fruit shop – and shoe shop, thongs for Maz. Then Bunnings for tent poles, tiedowns etc, and Sams Warehouse for some storage bins – and north. Refueled at Mossman BP Depot for 148.5 – cheapest around (checked it last trip to Mossman).
Then back 3 km and up the hill to Julaten and Mt Molloy, where we are planning to stop.
Quite a climb, but mostly in 4th – 3rd tops out at 50kph…
Like all the bigger free (or gold coin donation…) camps with toilets, it was filling fast by 4PM 28 vehicle at dusk… Chatted to the neighbor Lynne who was 59 divorced after 30+ years, sold up, bought a motorhome and hit the road – a couple of years ago. Might see her at Cooktown.
