Left Toomulla after a good walk – some steep hills around there kid-you-not.
Drove through Cardwell and saw the damage still evident from the January cyclone. Lots of road works too. A speedy Kenworth in the opposite direction chucked up a rock and starred the right windscreen 30cm from the top and outside. F*^% A 5cm star is apparently too big to legally repair – so I am looking for a cash in hand repairer… in Cairns.
Paul in Mackay recommended seeing Etty Bay just south of Innisfail perfect crescent bay white sand steep rain forest behind – and cassowaries wandering around. Half way down the steep drive to the beach was a sign – no dogs beyond this point. No way to stop and turn around so we continued to the beach for a brief rest – avoiding the cassowary wandering around the cars at the beach. I don’t think Honey would have been a problem as she decided at Barringum that Emus were to be avoided (along with chained and barking cattle dogs…
Anyway we quietly retreated and Maz booked one night (all that’s avbl) at Flying Fish Point north of Innisfail – recommended by one of our camping neighbors. Have just arrived and been for a walk along the beach; beautiful again, but the sand is a bit coarse…
And again the price above the advertised rate (2011 QLD Caravan Parks guide) $33 per night – but has a pool and minigolf. We don’t think they like blow ins.
Anyway as we have to move on, tomorrow will be Cairns somewhere thereabouts.
