19th July

We spent last night at Hydeaway (or Hideaway) Bay between Proserpine and Bowen. A beautiful, peaceful corner, but the park was $3 more than advertised and the 3G was only available at the top of a hill – standing on tip toes - so we moved on this morning.

Still haven't felt inclined to get under the bus again to adjust the tie-rod – but keep pushing the gearstick to make sure nothing has moved… We now have 419, 195 km on the clock so, with the zigging and zagging, have done 3,395 in the week and a bit (at 29c/km in fuel)

Currently staring straight out over Port Denison from the Bowen foreshore. Soon heading for Townsville (200km). We have been encouraged to stay at Flying fish Point south of Innisfail, so we may make that tonight, or not. Still looking ok to be past Cairns on my birthday!!!

We shopped at Wooly’s, Ayr - and at the MITRE 10 opposite for some small screws to re attach the chunk of steel over the door…
Drove around Townsville, didn’t stop until filling up on the way out…

Maz picked a spot for the night 30km north, Toomulla beach, another free park with toilets. To get to the beach would be a hike around the tidal lagoon /mangrove/ mudflat !!!! But the parking spot is excellent. Again about 20 vans and machines, with the occupants chilling.

Our neighbor is sitting singing and accompanying on guitar. Reckon I could jam with the Yammy Keytar (S-10 - look it up, just happen to have it with me…) for a few songs. Another wine first tho… Maz is organising the chicken salad while I am drinking the last of the wine… drivers privilege!

I have a few people to track down around Cairns: Tony and Helen Sanders (ATC) who have retired to a farm!!! In Malanda (inland between Innisfail and Cairns) Owen Richards, CASAs manager for the north. Uncle of Ted Richards (Swans defender, I used to walk to school with his dad, Teds that is) and old family friend. The whole Richards family learned to ski at Mulwala with my dad. We used to be neighbors at Mentone. An Irish catholic family giving the youngest son a welsh name cant' be coincidence… And perennial aviation do-gooder, Doug Stott who now lives up at Atherton (where people retire from Cairns) and who I have known for… 35 years –shit!

Any typos left are bad luck – typing one hand, without spilling anything is tricky. This is so=o=o relaxing, I keep forgetting my drugs!!
