Once it was quite light and warmed up a bit, I crawled under the back of the bus. Everything attached, looking and feeling okay… Crawled under the front and poked around under the gear stick. Lo and behold there was a 40cm tie-rod lying across the thermo fans. So with torch in my mouth I managed to find the ends – very awkward lack of space – and re-attached the rod. So with several re-adjustments, and bleeding knuckles, it is clear that as the rod undid it prevented selecting rev and 1st, then when it fell out was left with the gears selected.
So we are back in business and will continue inland from Inglewood (10 km back from where we are) to Dalby, then go left or right… hit the coast at Bundaberg, Rocky, Mackay or Townsville…
We decided to go from Dalby, Kingaroy (didn¹t get any peanuts)
Murgon, Maryborough and tonight are in a rest area just past Childers and 40 odd km from Bundaberg. And we have about 20 other caravans and motorhomes for company... We arrived after dark after giving up on Bundaberg... So have had to park carefully and considerately!
