Quiet peaceful, dry and warm... until the excavator started at 1PM, and the tip truck... They have removed 20 or 30 10cubic metre loads of sand and dumped it not far away. We are sick of the noise, just like the construction site next door at home! We adjourned inside about 6PM and shut the lakeside windows. Supposed to finish tomorrow. We have resolved to escape as soon at the work starts tomorrow, the 2nd, which will be after lunch.
2nd, a glorious morning, chatting with old and new neighbours, eventually a light lunch... and 1330 the tide is low enough for the excavator. We are off south, with no particular plan, aside from food, beer and some hose for the washing machine - extensions so we can fill and drain without having to move it around.
It is a very pretty drive down the coast to Cairns from here. With the sunroof open, we eventually decide to keep going to Smithfield about 15km before Cairns (about 95km from Daintree). They have a Bunnings!!! Buy some hose and fittings and a plastic toolbox just the size to fit under the lounge seat next to the big mother twin cylinder tyre pump.
Passing beautiful beaches and scenery - without a damn camera again. Resolve to leave the Olympus E-420 in the car!!!
Over the road (across the Captain Cook Hwy is the shopping centre. Forgot they have a Dan Murphy!!! Were aiming for the Woolies. So shopped up, its back to Daintree. At 6PM the excavator is still at it moving the rest of the sand along the side of the river and filling up the old launching ramp. Soon peaceful though and time to cook the Barramundi from Julaten, fabulous flavour texture and cooked perfectly on the BBQ. We have both had it after our big day out in the heat and sun-glare!
