5th Sept - Katherine...

We started the day with a dip at Bitter Springs - on the Little Roper River... behind the Mataranka Camping Ground! about 700 m stroll - but in the Elsey NP - so no dogs. We had walked down halfway when we struck the sign!!! so then took Honey back 'home' and started again.

Didn't take a thermometer - but the water was a few degrees below body temperature... crystal clear with a gentle current. We 'took the waters'... along with fellow tourists including a French couple; they had a camera in a water-proof case and were having... fun... below...
Spot the 'froggie'

Back to the bus and off! South Katherine has a comprehensive Info centre. We asked about a dog friendly CP and immediately got a list and a map from a very helpful local -with fairly good English. The Info is right next to a shopping mall with a Woolies... and Woolies Fuel... yay.

So we headed to Riverview CP, not far and on the Victoria Highway, our way out of town... We are installed up the back, and as it happens next to the gate to the Katherine Hot Springs!

Unhitch the car and off exploring. The Post Office: two out of four packages have arrived? Beats me! Grog shop - no. Takeaway/off-license only open 2PM til 8PM. So we decide to go to the gorge - Nitmiluk NP, it's only 30KM. It is stinking hot!!! Book for a two hour, two gorge cruise for tomorrow morning.

Back to the supermarket and grog shop... Woolies Liquor doesn't bother with controlled stuff. They would need to see and record ID to sell one 2L cask of wine per person per day... So we go next door where license is actually scanned and we can each, separately buy and pay for a cask. No limit on bottles, or beer, just cask wine... oh and bottles of fortified wine. So 2 small casks of wine, two bottles of red and a reasonably priced slab of Crownies... and some food off 'home'.

Definitely time for a dip, temp in high 30s... Not a NP so Honey is coming down to the springs with us. There are lots of people, and I may have seen an old sign about dogs... Water is supposed to be 32 degrees - which is nice when the air is pushing 40! So this time we ALL took the waters... Took the small waterproof camera this time - but forgot to re-install the card. Internal memory only good for a couple of 'large, fine' photos. But it didn't leak!

Back home for a rump steak and salad... and we have had it.
