30-31st Aug - at Karumba

One of the reasons we decided to stay was that the expected mail (satellite stuff and replacement lock for the bus hatches...) will not arrive til Friday, unless it sneaks on the charter flight on Thursday... The other reason is that we like it here... aside from sandflies.

So Thursday we chilled out , saving ourselves for sunset dinner at the pub; Sunset Tavern. Which turned out well, although the lack of clouds made the sunset less spectacular. Basically 'splash', darker.

So its Friday, last day, so packing washing cleaning. And i intercepted the neighbour (with the humungous 5th wheeler) who has shade-cloth mesh hose bags for sale. Bought three. the waste hose and the two 9m drinking hose lengths are stiff and a pain to coil.

Pretty Face Wallaby
Early afternoon headed to a small waterhole on the edge of town to try the big long lens on wildlife, mixed results at full zoom and lots of camera movement, but...
A Jabiru

Egret

Have not identified this beautiful bird
A call from the local pharmacy that my drugs have turned up - in the nick of time - so I will not need to chase any til Perth. The Karumba Pharmacy, family run Chris, Cathy and Michaela, delighted to meet them all.
And of course the post office. When I was concerned the mail might not make it Friday I paid for a diversion to Katherine NT... Wanted it from the 1st but was advised and the form changed to the second Sept...
Anyway on arrival at the PO at 3:45 on the 31st Aug... discovered that four mail articles had been re-directed, back to Cairns - an hour before! So hopefully will be waiting in Katherine via Darwin in a week or so, Damn: plan early, plan often... plan on the plan not going according to plan!

BBQ the last of the Julatten Barra. Lots of Aeroguard...

Tomorrow Cloncurry, 450KM Burke Developmental Road - also named Matilda Highway!
