19th Sept - Broome, the coast, Indian Ocean!

Well there is not much incentive to stay at Derby... so we are off via fuel and Woolies. Very serious pre-departure check on the bus. The half a bolt head is still there! The coolant level is down a little - still getting rid of air, perhaps - okay though. Oil okay. Topped everything up. Away!

After refuelling Maz noticed a dark local across the spoon drain from the servo, under a tree sleeping, unconscious... or dead. We go across the road to Woolies, a bit uneasy. Woolies opens at 8AM - raising the industrial steel roller shutters... We notice another couple of 'locals' go towards the 'sleeping' bloke. They take little notice! We have noted on various town plans up here the "Sobering Up Place"... It is a bit like a foreign country for us...

Anyway, re-stocked we are off - watching instruments like a pair of hawks...
260KM to Broome. We have no particular plan other than Broome Bolt Supplies - so there first. Once I have the bolt (washers and nuts, socket set...) we ring the Info Centre for dog friendly CPs. There is only one in town at the back of Cable Beach, so there we go. In by early afternoon. Noticeably cooler here but much more humid...

A quiet afternoon reading and planning is finished by a 20 minute walk to the beach where we watch the sunset from the Surf Club (that has no surf, but a good bar). Here are the results (exposures all over the place, sorry).

While we haven't got to drive onto the beach for the sunset - and not taking the bus I can tell you - it is near enough to mission accomplished so there is no reason to hang about Broome. We will head somewhere south tomorrow. Port Hedland is over 600KM so we will do it in bits. Don't know what bits... We will see how we go...
