We have travelled the whole of Route 66 in ONE DAY!
Well Australia's Route 66 which is the Barkly Highway from Mount Isa to the Stuart Highway 667KM. Leaving Isa about 9AM.
Mount Isa, Camooweal, Barkly Homestead, Three Ways - didn't seem any point in stopping - there is stuff all to see... The road from Isa to Camo is brilliant. But topped with fuel at $1.93.9!!!! A new record!
The NT border is 14 k m west of Camooweal... then 500m later it is the 130KPH speed limit - which of course we can't do... However 2KM further is the first ROADWORKS with a 60KPH limit... but it is a sidetrack diversion and 25KPH is a fast as I am game to go - occasional bursts of 30...Then back to 130 for 5KM.. and then more detour/diversion and 25-30 kph for another 10KM...

Finally off the roadworks and its a comfortable 100 ish to Barkly Homestead - which makes more money from fuel that anything, I reckon $1.99.9 per litre... I guess the pump doesn't have a 2!
Finally the Stuart Highway 21KM north of Tennant Creek -Three Ways. And boy that's it for today!!!
BTW: for those who haven't worked it out Great Australian (not very much at) All
Tomorrow Daly Waters, probably, and via Churchills Head etc...
